Our Rannafast squad qualified for this year’s 1/4 final with a game to spare with a hard-earned victory over St.Macartan’s, Monaghan. Star of the show was undoubtedly Dara O Callaghan with his personal tally of 3-2. Dara, a year 11 pupil, was making his debut for the Year 12 team and it’s surely one he’ll remember.
Following Monaghan’s opening score of the game, Abbey scored 1-5 without reply, 1-2 courtesy of O Callaghan, and points from Jamie Lynch, Dara Gough and team captain, Jamie Martin. Monaghan narrowed the gap with a goal before half time, scored at the third attempt following two outstanding saves from Dean Sheridan.
Abbey led by 4 at half time.
The second half was a tight affair but brilliant second half performances from Tom Hamill, Pearse Mc Polin and Ross Garvey and good forward play from O Callaghan and Eoin Carr was enough to see the Abbey home on a score line of 3-11 to 1-8.
