Abbey Christian Brothers Grammar School Celebrates Outstanding A-Level Class of 2026

Abbey students celebrate a year of hard work, achievement and exciting futures as the Class of 2026 secures places at leading universities and apprenticeship programmes

Abbey Christian Brothers Grammar School in Newry is celebrating the achievements of its Year 14 Class of 2026, following another outstanding set of A-Level results.

Students have secured places at some of the world’s most prestigious universities, including Oxford and Harvard, alongside destinations such as Queen’s University Belfast, Ulster University, Trinity College Dublin and universities across Ireland, Scotland and England. Others will begin the next chapter of their journey through Higher Level Apprenticeships and a wide range of other pathways.

Behind every result is a story of commitment, determination and support. Across 30 A-Level subjects, the Class of 2026 has shown the breadth of talent within the Abbey community, with students achieving highly across a wide range of academic disciplines.

For the school, however, today is about more than grades and university places. It is about celebrating the young men who have grown, developed and supported one another throughout their years at the Abbey.

Principal of Abbey CBGS, Mrs Savage, said:

“I could not be more proud of every single one of our Year 14s. They have shown tremendous dedication, resilience and ambition, and today is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything they have achieved.

“From Oxford and Harvard to Queen’s, Trinity and Ulster, and from Higher Level Apprenticeships to the many other destinations across Ireland, Scotland and England, our Class of 2026 have exciting futures ahead of them.

“I am particularly delighted by the overwhelming number of students who have secured their first-choice destination. That is a fantastic achievement and one which reflects not only their ability, but the hard work they have put in over many years.

“Of course, these results are only one part of their story. What makes us especially proud is the young men they have become. They leave the Abbey with the values of the Edmund Rice tradition, with friendships and memories that will stay with them, and with the confidence to take on whatever comes next.

“They leave here as Abbey men, and while we are excited to see where their journeys take them, we hope they will always feel that Ashgrove Road is home. We look forward to welcoming them back in the years ahead and hearing all about their adventures.

“Congratulations, Class of 2026. You have made us very proud.”

The school also extends its warmest congratulations to the students, their families and the dedicated staff who have supported them throughout their time at the Abbey.

A special congratulations goes to the students who achieved three A grades or higher. They are pictured with Principal Mrs Savage, Vice-Principal Mr Ruddy and Senior Teacher Ms O’Hare.
