A true Abbey legend is laid to rest.
Our whole school community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Pat Mooney. RIP
Over the past days we have read many messages from past pupils, former colleagues and current members of staff and it is clear that everyone held Pat in the highest of esteem. He had a profound influence on all those that he taught and all those that he worked with. His postive affirming manner and his unique love for the Abbey extended across generations.
Pat’s classroom was a place of wonder and magic as he was able to make the written word come alive in a way that left students spellbound.
This enthusiasm also spread outside the classroom. His great love of drama, golf, Scoil Drámaíocht and GAA meant that many more Abbey students benefitted from his infectious passion for sport and the Arts. Never to be forgotten. One of a kind. Incomparable.
We extend our sincere condolences to Pat’s sister, Eileen and his many friends at this very sad time.
