The Abbey was proud to welcome representatives from Edmund Rice Schools Trust (ERST NI) as we officially presented a cheque in support of the Gaza Paediatric Care Initiative (GPCI), a project that is bringing hope and essential medical care to children and families affected by the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
We were delighted to receive Mr Seán Sloan and Diane Russell from ERST NI, who accepted the donation on behalf of the initiative. The presentation marked the culmination of our whole-school fundraising efforts, which took place during our dedicated fundraising day in February.
The generosity shown by our students, staff, families and wider school community was truly inspiring. Through a range of fundraising activities organised across the school, our community came together with a shared purpose—to make a meaningful difference to the lives of children and families facing unimaginable hardship.
As an Edmund Rice school, our mission extends beyond the classroom. We are committed to nurturing young people who live out the Gospel values of compassion, justice and service, encouraging them to recognise their responsibility to support those who are most vulnerable. Our involvement in this initiative reflects these core values and demonstrates the importance of standing in solidarity with communities experiencing conflict and suffering.
The Gaza Paediatric Care Initiative brings together healthcare professionals from across Ireland who are providing vital medical expertise, treatment and support to children injured or affected by the ongoing conflict. The initiative also seeks to assist families whose lives have been devastated by the humanitarian crisis, ensuring that practical help reaches those who need it most.
The Abbey is proud to stand alongside other schools within the ERST NI network in supporting this important cause. Collectively, Edmund Rice schools across Northern Ireland have now raised more than £15,000, highlighting the remarkable impact that can be achieved when school communities unite in a spirit of generosity and compassion.
Speaking at the cheque presentation, representatives from ERST NI expressed their sincere appreciation for the support shown by the Abbey community and acknowledged the significance of schools working together to promote justice, peace and hope through practical action.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to our fundraising efforts. Every donation, every act of kindness and every show of support has helped make a positive difference to children and families living through extraordinarily difficult circumstances.
This initiative serves as a powerful reminder that even small acts of generosity, when multiplied across a caring community, can have a profound impact. We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing this opportunity to put their faith into action and demonstrate the values that define life at the Abbey.
Together, we continue to show that by working in partnership and caring for others, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need our support the most.
