Rory Goss Inspires Students at the Abbey’s ER Fun Day

The Abbey’s ER Fun Day got off to a truly inspiring start as we welcomed back former pupil Rory Goss to his Alma Mater for a special address to our students.

Returning to 77A Ashgrove Road, Rory received a warm Abbey welcome as he shared his remarkable personal journey with the boys. His visit was a fitting way to begin a day centred on community, inclusion and the values of Edmund Rice, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.

As a proud past pupil, Rory embodies many of the qualities that the Abbey seeks to nurture in every young man who walks through our doors. His story is one of resilience, determination and courage, demonstrating that challenges can be overcome through perseverance, a positive mindset and an unwavering belief in oneself.

Throughout his presentation, Rory encouraged our students to rethink the way they view disability. Rather than focusing on limitations, he challenged everyone to recognise and celebrate ability. His powerful message—that it is our strengths, talents and determination that define us—resonated deeply with students and staff alike.

Speaking openly and honestly about his own experiences, Rory highlighted the importance of self-belief, embracing challenges and refusing to allow obstacles to dictate what can be achieved. His words served as a reminder that success is not measured by the barriers we face, but by the courage and commitment we show in overcoming them.

The students listened attentively throughout the presentation, engaging with Rory’s message and drawing inspiration from his achievements.
