BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2022

Good luck to Ben Mooney and John-Paul McGreevy who are taking part in the BT Young Scientist Exhibition 2022. Their project is entitled “Is caffeine necessary? An examination regarding whether neuromuscular/mental fatigue is a state of mind”.

In their own words:

Caffeine is the most widely used psychoactive substance in the world, with its consumption exponentially increasing amongst our society, especially in adolescents. However, it’s addictive nature lacks the intense regulatory health measures and awareness, that are needed. Our project aims to prove that tiredness is a state of mind, preventing caffeine’s physical, psychological, academic and social consequences from having detrimental effects on our population. We found the placebo effect to be of great impact against tiredness, especially in younger generations. In response to these findings, we aim to help combat this dangerous addiction and raise awareness of caffeine’s detrimental effects.
