Success At A’Level

The Abbey Christian Brothers’ Grammar School, Newry is celebrating yet another excellent set of A-Level results following their ‘Outstanding’ General Inspection Report last year.

The most significant statistic from these results is that more than a third of the total grades awarded were A*/A grades
A total of 14 pupils achieved 3 or more A grades.

Six pupils achieved at least 4 ‘A’ grades. James Haughey obtained an outstanding 3 A* grades and an A grade. He is studying Finance at Queens University, Belfast. Rory Waterman achieved 2 A* grades and 2 A grades. He is going to University College , Dublin to study BCOM International. Conn O’Neill obtained an A* grade and 3 A grades. He wishes to study Computer Science at Queens University, Belfast. Also achieving an A* grade and 3 A grades is Peter Reel who has been accepted to study Medicine at Queens University, Belfast. Andrew Hughes and James McNulty both obtained 4 A grades each. Andrew wishes to study English Law and French Law at Kings College, London. James is taking a Gap Year and wishes to study Medicine next year.

Another eight pupils achieved at least 3 ‘A’ grades. Cormac Begley achieved 2 A* grades, an A grade and a B grade. He is going to Trinity College, Dublin to study Psychology. Leo Gorman obtained 2 A* grades and an A grade. He wishes to study Physics at Bristol University. Declan Hillen achieved an A* grade and 2 A grades. He is studying Computer Science at Queens University, Belfast. Ethan Wroe also achieved an A* grade and 2 A grades. Rather than go to University, Ethan is working in the Department of Culture, Sports and Media in Whitehall, London. Declan Cranny obtained 3 A grades and is studying Mechanical Engineering at Queens University, Belfast. Kamil McCabe achieved 3 A grades and is studying Software Engineering at Manchester University. Stephen McKay obtained 3 A grades and is studying Finance at Queens University, Belfast. Micheal Moore achieved 3 A grades and is studying Accounting at Queens University, Belfast.

Mr Dermot McGovern, Headmaster congratulated all the leavers on their results. He indicated that virtually every boy achieved his first choice university place. He was also delighted with the Lower Sixth performance in their AS examinations as they now have the potential to outperform this years A-Level results next year. He paid tribute to his hard working staff, both teaching and support staff and thanked them for all their efforts and dedication to the welfare of their students. He also acknowledged the strong school-parental links that helped the boys to achieve their best.
