The Physics Department at Abbey CBS is dedicated to fostering a deep curiosity about the fundamental laws of nature. From the smallest subatomic particles to the vast expanse of the cosmos, we aim to provide our students with the tools to understand the physical reality of the universe.
Our department emphasises critical thinking, mathematical modelling, and rigorous experimentation. We believe that studying Physics is not just about learning facts, but about developing a versatile mindset that prepares students for the challenges of the 21st century.
Key Stage 3
In the junior years, we introduce students to the core building blocks of Physics through an engaging, hands-on approach. Topics include:
• Forces and Motion
• Energy and Heat Transfer
• Light and Sound
• Electricity
GCSE (Key Stage 4)
At GCSE, we follow the CCEA Specification. Students have the opportunity to study Physics as a standalone subject or as a major component of Double Award Science. The course balances theoretical understanding with practical investigations, ensuring students develop strong analytical skills.
More details can be found on CCEA’s website via the following links:

A-Level (Post-16)
Physics is a popular and high-achieving choice at A-Level, following the CCEA Specification. The course is designed to bridge the gap between school and university-level science, covering:
• AS Level: Forces, Energy, Electricity, Waves/Photons and Astronomy.
• A2 Level: Fields, Capacitors, Nuclear & Particle Physics.
