Jigs And Reels - Preview

This Friday, 11^thJanuary 2013, promises to be an extravaganza of Irish dance, with a balance of esteemed local Irish dancers and the equally enthusiastic students and teachers, who have been taught from scratch. They are coming together to raise money for the Abbey’s Zambian Immersion Project in the first ever ‘Abbey Jigs and Reels.’

The project helps to fund educational initiatives set up by the school in Zambia and will see a group of staff and pupils go to Zambia in March to help with these projects.

HARD HITTING ROAD CAMPAIGN COMES TO THE ABBEY

Sixth and Seventh Year pupils from both the Abbey and the Sacred Heart Grammar School, took part in a road accident demonstration as part of Northern Ireland Road Safety week. Members of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the Ambulance Service came to the school on Thursday 22nd November 2012, to target young drivers with their hard hitting campaign.

Brother Beausang Shield Presentation

In recognition of their respect and affection for the late Br. Beausang, the local branch of Conradh na Gaeilge (Craobh an Iúir) presented a perpetual trophy to the Irish Department in the Abbey Grammar school which is awarded annually to the top oral student in sixth form.
